I thought I’d share my most recent COVID-19 experience with you, which required me to operate in a COVID specific operating theatre. This meant I had to take all the precautions and wear the full PPE requirements. Thankfully there was plenty of PPE equipment available in our hospital, and this consisted of a plastic apron, 2 theatre hats, a special 3M mask, a visor, surgical gown and 2 pairs of surgical gloves. It was a bit daunting to put it all on and take it off in the correct order, but there was friendly advice at hand. It was actually quite warm operating in all this equipment for 3 hours. I found it a little difficult to hear others under all the masks and visors, but we managed to complete the operation successfully and the patient is making a great recovery. It is truly amazing to see such team spirit and dedication in our ophthalmic service at this difficult time. I hope you all manage to stay safe. Paul Cannon
