Lumps bumps and skin tags

February 12th, 2012

Eyelid and facial lumps and bumps, and skin lesions, are very common. Have these removed quickly, safely and in comfortable surroundings at my clinic Face & Eye in Northenden, Manchester. The surgery is much less expensive than at private hospitals where the hospital costs are very high.

Visit www.faceandeye.co.uk/face/minorsurgery.html for further information about costs. We can also remove skin lesions for all areas e.g. sebaceous cysts from the scalp and back with the minimum of discomfort.

For those clients who are needle phobic or very anxious, safe conscious sedation can be provided by our consultant anaesthetists (”twilight anaesthesia”).

Laser cataract surgery using a femtosecond laser

February 12th, 2012

Many patients assume that cataract surgery is already undertaken using a laser. This is entirely understandable as patients are aware of the ultra-precision offered by surgical techniques using a laser. This has not been the case until now. Laser Cataract Surgery, and Laser Clear Lens Surgery, are finally a reality.

At Mr Leatherbarrow’s ambulatory surgical clinic, Face & Eye in South Manchester, we are amongst the first ophthalmic surgeons in the UK, as well as the rest of the world, to be able to offer the most advanced form of cataract surgery, or clear lens replacement surgery (for the management of optical errors which are not suitable for standard corneal laser correction). Laser Cataract Surgery using a femtosecond laser offers even safer, quicker and improved outcomes by eliminating the potential for human error in performing delicate parts of the procedure that may lead to complications and loss of optimum visual function.

Self pay surgery requiring general anaesthesia

September 5th, 2009

Manchester Royal Eye Hospital has now moved from its old site into its brand new, impressive, state of the art facility adjacent to Manchester Royal Infirmary and the new Manchester Childrens’ Hospital. It also has its own separate dedicated private patients ward. Most major private operations (e.g. surgery requiring general anaesthesia on a day case basis or with a 1-2 night stay in hospital) for self pay patients can be offered at a lower price than that which is charged by other local private hospitals. Typical operations undertaken in the new facility are: cataract surgery, orbital decompression for thyroid eye disease, enucleation and orbital implant surgery for a blind unsightly eye, cosmetic eyelid surgery or brow lift surgery, midface lift surgery, watering eye surgery (external and endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR), ptosis surgery (droopy eyelid correction), eyelid reconstruction surgery, orbital and eyelid tumour surgery, fat pearl grafting for hollowed eyelids and Coleman fat injection surgery (structural fat grafting). For details contact us at Face & Eye (enquiries@faceandeye.co.uk or telephone 08458 33 22 33) where initial consultations can be offered (except for patients under the age of 18 who can be seen at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital on thursday afternoon/evening)

September 5th, 2009

Restylane or Juvederm combined with a local anaesthetic agent (Lignocaine) in the same syringe is now available. This now removes the requirement for the application of a topical anaesthetic cream to the eyelids prior to injection making the procedure faster and much more comfortable. Telephone Face & Eye on 08458 332233 for more details of this very popular and highly specialised treatment. Alternatively send an email to brianleatherbarrow@faceandeye.co.uk

Coleman fat injections combined with blepharoplasty

February 10th, 2009

Lower lid blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery, eye bag removal) can be combined with Coleman fat injections (structural fat grafting) which can help to camouflage the outer tear trough defects by improving cheek hollows when these cannot be adequately managed by fat repositioning alone. The fat contains stem cells which can also improve the quality of the skin in the injected areas.

The fat is harvested from the outer buttock area or thigh via a tiny incision which is closed with a singe stitch. The fat is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the cells from blood and local anaesthetic solution. The fat cells are then injected with a fine blunt cannula into the outer aspects of the eyelids at the completion of the blepharoplasty. This can be done under “twilight anaesthesia” on a day case basis.

Watering eyes

January 28th, 2009

Scarless surgery for blocked tear ducts (endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR). This is particularly suitable for the patient who wears glasses or who is young and wants to avoid a permanent visible scar in a very visible location on the face. Tear Trough Rejuvenation Injections

January 24th, 2009

Tear Trough injections using Restylane have proved to be a very popular mode of treatment for suitable patients with dark circles under the eyes. These dark circles create a very tired look. The injections take a few minutes to perform and in the hands of a skilled and experienced oculoplastic surgeon yield very good results with a very high patient satisfaction rate. Experience has shown that patients experience very little discomfort during the treatment and the application of a topical anaesthetic cream a few minutes before the treatment is all that is required. Patients generally return for top-up injections  approximately 9 months following their initial injections. The injections can be used to enhance the results of cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) have also proved popular with patients who have undergone lower lid blepharoplasty surgery for eye bag removal elsewhere and who have been left with rather hollow or uneven looking lower eyelids and who do not wish to undergo further surgery e.g. fat pearl grafting.

Your eyes are precious: why entrust them to anyone other than an oculoplastic surgeon?

Can the injections be combined with anti-wrinkle injections? Yes they can.
