Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty is an operation that removes excess loose folds of skin from the upper eyelids and 'bags' from the lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery is performed for people who have droopy, overhanging eyelids that impair vision, cause frequent blinking and eye fatigue or look unsightly. It is also performed on people who have "puffy" lower eyelids that may look unsightly.

Anti Wrinkle Injections
Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-Wrinkle Injections are very commonly used for the treatment of frown lines and unwanted facial wrinkles. Frown lines are caused by the involuntary contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows (this area is referred to as the glabella). It can also be used to improve the "laughter lines" around the eyes, and in some patients, horizontal creases in the forehead. When used to treat frown lines in the glabella it often causes a secondary lift of the eyebrows. Read more on BOTOX...

Orbital Implants

Following successful human clinical trials the US Food and Drug Administration authorised the use of these orbital implants in September 1989. Porous hydroxyapatite orbital implants have now become the implants of first choice amongst the leading oculoplastic surgeons world-wide. By January 2005 over 1200 patients had received this implant under Dr. Leatherbarrow's care in Manchester. Read more on orbital implants...

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Mohs Micrographic SurgeryMohs surgery is a highly specialised surgical technique to remove certain skin tumours. It has an extremely high cure rate; no other treatment modality can guarantee complete removal of the tumour to as high a degree of certainty. Further, this technique ensures that an absolute minimal amount of normal tissue is sacrificed. This is of immense importance around the eyes. This also ensures that the reconstructive surgery required to deal with the ensuing defect is less extensive. Read more on Mohs Micrographic Surgery...

Eyelid Tumours

Eyelid and facial lesions (tumours/growths/lumps) are common in patients referred to oculoplastic surgeons. The main goal in the evaluation of these lesions is to differentiate malignant from benign lesions. In general, the majority of malignant tumours affecting the eyelids and surrounding areas are slowly enlarging, destructive lesions that distort or frankly destroy eyelid anatomy. Lacrimal Drainage Surgery

Excessive tearing or the bothersome problem of tears overflowing down the cheek is called epiphora. This can have many different causes. A careful clinical examination is performed to determine the underlying cause. Treatment will depend on the cause e.g. if the lower eyelid is sagging away from the eye and causing epiphora, the treatment will be surgery designed to reposition the eyelid. Read more...
